Q&A from our first meeting

We had a wonderful time at Back to School night! Our meet and greet table was very busy with parents signing up to volunteer and supporting our first fundraisers. Thank you for all of your support!


We held our first PTO meeting following Open House. Meeting minutes will be available soon, but in the mean time, here are a few questions (and answers) that came up during the meeting:

Q. Does PTO use the Remind app?

A. Not yet, but it’s a great idea! Parents of band students will be familiar with this app. It’s an easy way to receive text reminders about events, and to communicate back-and-forth. We will be setting this up soon for our PTO, and we will let you know when it’s ready.

Q. Our school will be undergoing renovations, but our furniture is dated. Can we do something about that?

A. Our philosophy is “dream big”. We are not sure yet how our fundraising will do this year, but we would love to provide big impact donations to our school if we can. This, and other ideas — no matter how big — are welcome and appreciated.

Q. Will we have the pumpkin decorating contest at the Fall Festival this year?

A. The pumpkin contest is always a popular part of the Fall Festival, showcasing amazing creativity. Yes, we will include it again this year.

Q. Can we reduce the amount of paper sent home with kids? Families are getting multiple copies of the same thing.

A. We will look into this and make an effort to send information home with the oldest child. Some copies are beyond the school’s control.

Q. Will the Fall Festival and other events be allergy-friendly?

A. The PTO wants to do what we can to make our events inclusive for all students. We welcome suggestions from parents of special needs children to make our events fun and safe for them. Please e-mail us at info@senecastreetpto.org with any advice you can share.

Q. Have you considered other fundraisers, like $1 candy bars, or a car wash?

A. We are always looking for new fundraisers to try. Our goal is to use fundraisers that provide a good return for our school, are low cost for families, and do not require a lot of work from our volunteers. This year we eliminated fundraisers that involved pricey products and competed with other schools. If you have a fundraising idea that fits with our goals, please tell us about it at info@senecastreetpto.org.
